Take a memorable 70 km scenic drive down the escarpment to the surreal, pink-hued soda lake of Lake Magadi, a natural wonder and an incredible photography opportunity. Witness the incredible salt flats and the dramatic, heat-shimmering landscape unique to this part of the Rift Valley.
Guests can also visit the Lake Magadi Conservancy for guided tours and more wildlife viewing opportunities.
Due to the nature of the terrain, it’s best to travel to Lake Magadi with a 4×4 vehicle, but a small car is fine if driven slowly and carefully, especially during the dry season.
Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site
Olorgesailie prehistoric site, located 90km south-west of Nairobi on Magadi Road, is world-renowned as the “factory of stone tools” — the largest concentration on Earth.
This Acheulian site features in-situ displays of hand axes, fossilized skeletons of extinct elephants and hippopotamus dating back 1.2 million years. The tools represent actual camping places of early humans, providing evidence that our species had a tropical origin. Excellently preserved biological and cultural remains were made possible by volcanic ash deposits from nearby Mt. Suswa and Mt. Longonot in a lake basin covering 80 km². Other attractions include a campsite, bandas, and a nature trail.
